Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups warm water (110°F)
  • 1 envelope (0.25 ounce) Rapid Rise instant yeast
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 large egg yolks
  • 1/2 tablespoon salt
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon honey (for egg wash)
  • 1/2 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional for garnish)

Instructions

  • Activate the yeast by combining warm water and instant yeast, letting it sit until frothy.
  • Mix wet ingredients including honey, oil, and eggs into the yeast mixture.
  • Gradually mix in salt and flour until a sticky dough forms.
  • Knead dough for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Let the dough rise in a greased bowl for 1-2 hours until doubled.
  • Divide risen dough into three portions and braid them together.
  • Let the braided dough rise for another 30-45 minutes on a baking sheet.
  • Preheat oven to 375°F and prepare egg wash.
  • Brush egg wash over the dough and sprinkle sesame seeds if desired.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and hollow when tapped.

Notes

Ensure water temperature is right to activate yeast.
Give dough enough time to rise for a fluffy loaf.
Do not skip the egg wash for a beautiful finish.
